Canadian Vox Popular Media Arts Fest to host Iran’s ‘The Recess’

The annual Vox Popular Media Arts Festival in Canada has been slated to screen the acclaimed Iranian short film ‘The Recess’.

Directed by Navid Nikkhah-Azad, the 12-minute flick will be showcased at the main competition section of the Canadian event’s 18th edition.

‘The Recess’ tells the story of a 17-year-old school-girl who runs away from school to watch the football match of her beloved club.

Sahar, along with three of her friends, is planning to exit the school during the break in order to watch the match between Esteghlal FC and Al Ain FC at Azadi Sports Complex.

Mozhan Kordi, Reyhaneh Naieean, Niloufar Shokouhinia, and Ghazal Khalili are on the cast list of the flick.

Kordi won the award for the best performance for her role in ‘The Recess’ at the 33rd Living Skies Student Film Festival in Canada.

Besides, the film has already toured a number of global film events, including the Oxford Film Festival and the Garden State Film Festival, both in the US, as well as the Sofia MENAR Film Festival in Bulgaria.

The Vox Popular Media Arts Festival will feature films of all genres from Northwestern Ontario, Canada and Internationally. There will be concerts, performance art, and a visual art exhibition, workshops Q&As and discussions with the artists to share knowledge, ideas, and experiences. Select films and performances will also be available online during and after the festival.

The 18th edition of the festival is set for September 8-11, 2022, in Ontario, Canada.
